Community Service
Welcome to the Woburn Public Schools Community Service Web Site. We hope to expand this site in the future, but we wanted to provide you with some basic information and the forms you need.
General Information
Community Service hours can be
earned by volunteering (not being paid) to help others. Routine school chores
(clapping erasers, cleaning cafeteria tables) and household chores (shoveling
snow or washing dishes at the student's own house) do not count as community
service hours.
Students in grades 5, 8, and
12 are eligible to receive Community Service awards at the end of their school
year.
To receive an award, students
in grade five must have completed 50 hours of community service during their
elementary school years.
To receive an award, students
in grade eight must have completed 50 hours of community service during their
middle school years.
To receive an award, students
in grade twelve must have completed 50 hours of community service during their
high school years.
Students in grades K-8 may
submit community service hours to their principal, who will keep them on file.
When students reach grade 5 or grade 8, their total hours will be tabulated.
Students in grades 9-12 should keep track of their own hours and turn them in to Mr. Shaughnessy when requested. The request will come at some point in the senior year.
